A points system that many Willy Street Co-op workers largely blamed for their pursuit of a union has been settled with a compromise between co-op management and representatives of UE Local 1186.

According to a Capital Times story, employees objected to the co-op’s no-fault policy that charged points for absences or late arrivals, with 14 points being the threshold for termination. Employees argued they were unfairly assessed points regardless of cause, even illness.

The compromise offers specific rules about paid sick time, separate from vacation time, which will be addressed at a later date.

The employees voted for a union last September, and the announcement of this compromise was made on the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America website.
