Grant funds of $2 million will support more than 1,500 beds and housing units in 27 counties across the state, Gov. Tony Evers announced on Dec. 26.
A total of 59 organizations will receive the grants from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority Foundation to help improve emergency shelters, transitional residences and low-income housing.
“These grants provide essential resources to those who need them and help create safer spaces for Wisconsinites who are unhoused, at risk and striving to overcome challenges,” Evers said in a statement.
Since 2019, more than 30,000 housing units have been built for Wisconsin’s workforce, seniors and families statewide using the grant program funds.
