WEDC touts entrepreneurial support

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. (WEDC) provided direct assistance to 314 startup and early-stage companies that supported 2,133 full-time jobs, 717 part-time jobs, and paid $111 million in wages in 2016, according to a new report.

The $385 million in new capital generated by those companies represents a 17% increase over the $328 million generated in 2015.

Also, companies participating in the WEDC’s Qualified New Business Venture (QNBV) program raised a record $281 million in investments and grants, while 80 companies participating in the Technology Development Loan program raised $115 million.

The average salary of employees in QNBV and TDL companies is more than $72,000.
