In the wake of recent concerns over the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.’s process for vetting grant applicants, the WEDC’s Audit Committee has approved a new internal policy that would inform authorities if unresolvable discrepancies are found in program award applications, WisBusiness reports.

As part of the proposed policy, WEDC staff would investigate discrepancies between an application and background checks, along with looking into potential lies discovered after an award has been granted If WEDC cannot resolve those discrepancies on its own, the matter would be referred to authorities.

The full WEDC board will review the policy next week.
