Webinar series to help businesses cut energy costs

Madison, Northeast and Southwest Wisconsin Technical Colleges and UW-Stevens Point are offering a free webinar series in June to help businesses reduce their energy costs. The project targets current employees and is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Industry Training and Assessment Center to support small and medium-sized manufacturers.

The webinars will feature expert presenter Jenny Brinker, project manager at GDS Associates, who will share lessons learned from performing hundreds of commercial energy audits for utility and government programs.

The webinars on the following dates will run from noon to 1 p.m. and address the following topics:

  • How to Read a Utility Bill & Benchmark Your Facility’s Energy Use (June 9) — This webinar will explore how to read a commercial/industrial utility bill, understand demand charges, and the benefits of benchmarking a facility’s energy use to identify savings opportunities and improve efficiency;

  • LED Lighting and Beyond: Savings with LED’s and Smart Lighting Controls (June 16) — Learn the fundamentals of LED lighting, including fixture types, color temperature and dimming techniques, along with smart lighting strategies like occupancy/vacancy sensors and daylighting controls to enhance energy efficiency and comfort;

  • Solar PV 101: System Basics, Life Cycle Costs, Current Incentives (June 23) — This webinar will cover the key components of solar electric systems, how to size arrays for optimal performance and payback, real-world examples from commercial and industrial buildings and current incentives to help reduce installation costs; and

  • What’s Using Energy? Save Energy Costs with Sub-Meters and Sensors (June 30) — Discover how sub-meters and sensors can transform an energy management strategy in this webinar on monitoring energy use, learning about different types of data loggers, real-world applications for tracking consumption and how these technologies can identify operational issues and drive energy savings.
