The companies, people and issues shaping business in Madison and the Capital Region.

From the pages of In Business magazine.

The manufacturing industry in Dane County may fall behind other areas of the state in terms of the sheer density of products and jobs, but there is no debating that this region is second to none in terms of the innovative and cutting-edge ideas that are generated and brought to market.

If you’ve lived in the area for even a short period of time, you’ve probably come to know some of the iconic products and brands that are manufactured right here in Dane County. Whether it is Oscar Mayer hot dogs, Sub-Zero home appliances, or Rayovac batteries — just to name a few — Dane County has a long history of producing some well-known products used in homes and businesses all over the world.

In recent years, Dane County has become widely known for many of the bioscience and biotechnology companies that have emerged in the area.

Companies such as Promega, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and GE Healthcare (again, to name just a few) have become international leaders in the research and development of some groundbreaking products.

In the April issue of In Business magazine, we will be unveiling our second annual “Made in Dane” feature, where we will once again showcase some of the innovative and unique products that are produced right here in our own backyard. Some may represent household names that many of us use every day but never realized are produced in Dane County. Others may be products we didn’t even know existed yet are changing the way we live our lives.

Either way, if you manufacture a product in Dane County we want to know about it! Simply send the following product information to Editorial Director Joe Vanden Plas (joe@ibmadison.com):

  • A high-resolution photo of your product with a product caption
  • A description of your product (up to 150 words)
  • A brief company summary

Our editorial team will select up to 25 of the most innovative or unique products from the submissions, and we’ll showcase them in this April’s “Made in Dane” feature.
