Yahoo will hire Google executive and Wausau native Marissa Mayer to be its next CEO, according to published reports.

Mayer, a 1993 Wausau West High School graduate who was one of Google’s earliest employees, will take over for Ross Levinsohn, who joined Yahoo in late 2010. He has been running the company on an interim basis and had been thought to be the lead candidate.

After graduating from Wausau West, Mayer attended Stanford and earned a bachelor’s degree in symbolic systems and a master’s degree in computer science. She was the first female engineer hired by Google, which she joined in 1999.
