Octopi Brewing Co. will break ground in Waunakee after flood plain issues in southeast Madison forced the brewery’s founder, Isaac Showaki, to look at alternate locations. Showaki wants to begin construction on the $5 million, 20,000-square-foot facility as soon as possible. The project may include about $200,000 in tax incremental funding from the village.
Octopi would be a brew-on-contract business that would brew 50 barrels of beer per batch and about 10,000 barrels of beer in its first year. The facility, on three acres, would include a 2,500-square-foot tasting room for 50 people and an outdoor patio area for 40. It would employ 10 people. If the plan is approved, the business could open in spring.
