The Urban Design Commission approved plans for “Washington Market” to transform the Milwaukee Road train depot at 640 W. Washington into a multiuse space with a three-season market.

The depot was built in 1903, and developer Gilbert Altschul wants to locate a taco restaurant inside and a market for fresh food producers outside.

Altschul’s plan to incorporate some of the train cars into his plan has hit a snag because they don’t currently meet zoning standards, according to The Capital Times.
