In 2003, Walmart abandoned plans to replace a smaller Walmart store in Stoughton with a Supercenter after the proposal sparked heated debate. The idea has been resurrected with a proposed plan for a new major development on the city’s west side. Project developer Kettle Park West, LLC, wants a 153,000-sq.-ft. Walmart Supercenter to anchor the Kettle Park Commercial Center and help attract large employers and residential development to the area. Approvals are still needed, and opposition is expected.
