Foxconn Technology, the Taiwanese company that assembles Apple Inc.’s iPhones, is nearing a decision to invest in Wisconsin and could make it official this week, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The publication reported Monday that Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., could hold an event as soon as this week to discuss its U.S. investment plans. Those plans reportedly include the production of display panels that are used in large-screen television sets.
Foxconn has said it’s looking at seven U.S. states where it could invest as much as $10 billion to manufacture flat-panel screens. One report said the company’s plans could bring upwards of 10,000 jobs to southeastern Wisconsin, and several possible plant sites reportedly are being considered in Racine County in close proximity to Interstate 94.
The Wall Street Journal report says that in addition to Wisconsin, Foxconn is looking in the Detroit area for a plant, but it’s not known what would be made there.
