The Wall Street Journal is reporting that AT&T has approached DirecTV about a possible acquisition, though both companies have declined comment. A deal would likely be worth at least $40 billion (DirectTV’s current market capitalization) and would be comparable in size to Comcast Corp.’s still-in-progress acquisition of Time Warner. AT&T’s current market capitalization is $185 billion, according to reports.
