In a move designed to remove roadblocks to economic development, Gov. Scott Walker has signed into law legislation to change the makeup of the Small Business Regulatory Review Board.
The legislation, Senate Bill 47, will increase the number of small business representatives on the board from six to seven and eliminate the representatives from eight state departments.
Walker said the change would improve Wisconsin’s regulatory review process, increase compliance, and give small businesses a bigger voice in rulemaking.
“By reworking the representation on the board, we are giving job creators a bigger voice in the state’s regulatory and rulemaking processes, and that’s good for jobs and economic growth,” he said.
The state agencies that will no longer have representation on the board are the Department of Administration, the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, the Department of Children and Families, the new Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., the Department of Health Services, the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Safety and Professional Services, and the Department of Workforce Development.
The bill’s authors were State Sen. Terry Moulton, R-Chippewa Falls, and State Rep. John Nygren, R-Marinette.
