Gov. Scott Walker proposed the state provide $560,000 toward a new shelter for Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS) in Madison. The current shelter often has a waiting list for its 25 beds, but the proposed new shelter on Fordem Avenue would have 56 beds and come with added security. Walker hopes the money, together with $462,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds, will spur more private donations for the project. DAIS has a fundraising goal of $7 million, including $3.8 million in operating funds. It has raised $3.8 million thus far.
