In an interview with the Wisconsin State Journal, Gov. Scott Walker discussed key pieces of his 2017–2019 biennial budget. Among them:
- No toll roads, at least for now;
- Borrowing for the state transportation budget will not exceed the $500 million in the Transportation Department’s budget request;
- Funding to the UW System will not be cut, though tuition could be reduced;
- He’d like to see UW System funding tied to performance measures;
- K–12 funding will be increased and considered a priority, particularly for rural schools;
- He is considering a $5 to $10 increase in state park fees.
Walker’s budget is due out in February.
