Walgreens Corp. filed suit in May against the village of DeForest claiming it was overtaxed for its distribution center located just off Hwy. 19. The drug store chain is looking for a refund of $235,205, according to the DeForest Times-Tribune.
Attorney Don Millis, who is representing Walgreens, says it’s a matter of each side seeing the market differently.
The latest suit is the fifth filed by Walgreens against the village. The previous four were settled for a total of $555,566, which becomes lost property tax revenue.
According to the report, the village of DeForest assessed Walgreens’ distribution center at $30,187,600 with $611,215 in property taxes. Walgreens maintains the property should be assessed at $18,521,548 and $375,010 in taxes.
