The village of Oregon is using a state grant to hire a consultant who will explore options for creating a public transit system, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The consultant will evaluate the village’s transportation needs and make recommendations that could range from a private bus service to ride-share taxis or e-bike stations.
Other options for consideration include a park-and-ride for Madison commuters or extended Madison Metro service to Oregon.
The village’s population has grown 30% since 2010. It formed an ad hoc transit committee two years ago and surveyed 400 residents, receiving mixed feedback; some residents voiced concerns over the cost of transit.
The village will cover 20% of the up to $60,000 cost for the new study, and the state Department of Transportation will cover the remainder.
