After a failed GOP attempt to override Gov. Tony Evers’s veto of a bill to kill the enhanced federal unemployment benefits, the funds will continue to flow to Wisconsin out-of-work residents until September, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The Wisconsin Assembly convened in extraordinary session today to vote to override Evers’ veto and do away with federal coronavirus unemployment benefits, which provide unemployed individuals with an extra $300 per week. The small business group Main Street Alliance of Wisconsin, with more than 100 member small businesses, came out in opposition to the override. The organization argued that with just a month left, the enhanced unemployment insurance benefits help families bridge the lack of child care until the fall school session.
