Veterans Day has now become a Dane County holiday, according to the Wisconsin State Journal, joining Indigenous People’s Day — added last month — among days off for county employees.
Nov. 11 became an official holiday honoring U.S. veterans on Thursday night after a unanimous vote by county supervisors. Indigenous People’s Day, honoring the culture and history of Native Americans, was nearly unanimously voted a county holiday on Feb. 1.
Thursday’s vote brings the number of county holidays to 10. Among these are Juneteenth, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. The two new holidays will each cost the county $80,100 in added overtime and holiday pay.
