Baking and cooking store Vanilla Bean, located at 6805 Odana Road, announced in a statement that it will close after 43 years in business in June after new landlords increased its rent by over 30%.
The building it occupies was sold in July, and “despite our best efforts to negotiate, they were unwilling to be reasonable and work with us,” Vanilla Bean said.
The store also said that costs have increased while more shoppers turn to online shopping.
“We have done everything we can to keep our employees happy and our prices as low as possible, but with this new rent increase, continuing simply isn’t sustainable.”
The statement also mentioned that the owners are looking to sell the store if someone is serious about purchasing and relocating it.
