It did not take long for UW Health to find enough children under 12 to participate in a phase three clinical trial of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine — three days, in fact.

The parents of children under 12, the only age group not yet eligible for the vaccine, showed overwhelming interest in the trial, UW Health spokesperson Emily Kumlien said in an article in the Wisconsin State Journal. UW’s American Family Children’s Hospital is one of 100 sites involved in the Moderna study.

The interest comes as the Delta virus variant has driven Wisconsin’s rate of coronavirus cases to levels not seen since the winter months.
