The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee has forgiven more than $5 million in outstanding balances owed by students from the 2020–21 school year, according to a Wisconsin Public Radio report. The action will affect more than 2,000 students with an average debt of $2,700. The university is using COVID-19 relief funds from the federal government for the program. Madison College took similar action earlier this summer to encourage students to re-enroll and continue their education.
