The west side of the UW–Madison campus could be completely reimagined under a proposal that would turn an area currently filled with parking lots into a fixture for high-density housing, hotels, or retail, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.

Future development of the part of campus west of Willow Creek could also feature public-private partnerships to support research enterprises and generate revenue to supplement limited state funding.

The university plans to present a final version of the proposal to the UW Board of Regents in July. If approved, it would then be implemented over 10 to 30 years.
