UW–Madison supports $38.9B annually to Wisconsin’s economy

newly released study, The economic and community contributions of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, concluded that the university, its affiliated organizations and startup companies contribute $38.9 billion annually to Wisconsin’s economy 

The report said the university supports 287,000 jobs statewide, and that the broader UW–Madison enterprise ranks among Wisconsin’s largest employers.  

The study found that one in every 11 jobs in the state is sustained by the university, placing it alongside major industries such as dairy, food processing and tourism as a key economic driver for Wisconsin.  

UW–Madison, its affiliates and business spin-offs generate $1.94 billion in state and local taxes collected each year, or $1 of every $12.70 collected statewide.
