A fire on Friday evening destroyed a shed and barn at UW–Madison’s West Madison Agricultural Research Station, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. No injuries to employees or emergency response personnel were reported.
UW–Madison Police spokesperson Marc Lovicott said firefighters and UW–Madison Police were called to the facility at 6:25 p.m. in response to a fire in a hay shed. The flames were subdued and the majority of the smoke had dissipated by 7:30 p.m.
The shed, barn, and a number of farm implements were declared a total loss. Officials are working to determine the fire’s cause. Lovicott said it does not appear suspicious. Law enforcement and fire investigators remained on-scene Friday night, closing down Mineral Point Road while firefighters combated the blaze.
