The latest U.S. News & World Report ranking on the nation’s best public colleges lists UW–Madison 10th out of all public colleges. UCLA and Virginia top the list.
When private schools are added to the mix, UW drops to 44th overall, tying Cal–Davis, Cal–San Diego, Illinois, and Miami.
Marquette came in at No. 86 overall, and Edgewood College, No. 171.
The top 10 colleges overall, according to the rankings, were Princeton, Harvard, Chicago, Yale, Columbia, Stanford, MIT, Duke, Penn, and Johns Hopkins — all private institutions.
