If all goes as planned, the University of Wisconsin’s ongoing adult education arm may soon have the authority to give business degrees.
The UW–Extension is seeking to amend its mission statement to allow it to grant business certificates, associate degrees and bachelor’s degrees through the UW System’s Flex Option program, which enables adult students to earn credits by demonstrating real life experience.
Extension officials say the change would help non-traditional students who need professional degrees delivered through alternative formats. Currently, the UW–Extension doesn’t offer any degrees.
The Board of Regents’ education committee will hold a public hearing on the proposed revisions. In order to go into effect, the proposal will need to pass a full Board of Regents vote.
