UW wins $2.5 million for tackling plastic waste

The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded the University of Wisconsin–Madison funding of $2.5 million for a plastics recycling research and development project as part of the DOE’s Plastics Innovation Challenge, according to a release from the Green Car Congress.

Twelve projects were awarded funding totaling $27 million. The winning UW project entitled “Designing Recyclable Biomass Biomass-Based Polyesters” was under Topic 3: BOTTLE Consortium Collaborations to Tackle Challenges in Plastic Waste.
