UW–Madison is introducing a new intellectual property model aimed at streamlining the process to license laboratory discoveries to businesses and entrepreneurs, according to the university.

The Badger IP Industry Advantage program simplifies the licensing of university research discoveries for businesses and entrepreneurs, facilitating the creation of commercially viable, and potentially life-saving, products more efficiently.

The program offers three models — The Classic, The Bascom, and The Varsity — each designed to cater to different partnership preferences with the university. These models aim to make the process of research agreements and intellectual property licensing more straightforward and negotiation-free, offering fair terms to all parties involved.

This approach is expected to enhance UW–Madison’s ability to collaborate on research that leads to new products addressing societal needs.
