UW–Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank announced the university will offer free tuition and fees to incoming students or transfer students whose families report an adjusted gross income of $56,000 or less.

The program, called Bucky’s Tuition Promise, will pay up to four years for a new freshman or two years for a transferring student.

According to a MilwaukeeJournal Sentinelarticle, UW expects the $3.3 million program, paid for by the university and private funds, will help at least 800 incoming freshmen each year. No tax dollars are involved.
