The University of Wisconsin allegedly overcharged U.S. government agencies for monies it received for research projects between 2008–2018.

UW–Madison agreed to return $1.5 million as a result, although it is not admitting wrongdoing. Rather, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport, the errors were the result of a “technical accounting issue,” according to UW Spokesman John Lucas in the story.

UW–Madison says the payback will not involve any state or federal funds, but it did not disclose where it would come from.
