High school students could be accepted into UW schools beginning next year without even applying, according to Wisconsin Public Radio, as UW launches its direct admissions initiative to increase enrollment across its campuses.
The initiative aims to reach first-generation college students and other potential students who may not have considered the option of a four-year school.
Participating high schools and UW campuses will enter student grade point averages and campus admission requirements into Infinite Campus or Skyward Schools — two large student information systems used by many of Wisconsin’s public school districts. Students will then receive admission letters to the campuses with which they are matched for fall of 2025.
Roughly 270 high schools statewide are participating in the direct admissions program, including Madison Metropolitan School District. Ten of the 13 UW System campuses are taking part. UW–Madison, UW–LaCrosse, and UW–Eau Claire are the exceptions.
