To explore all avenues of cost savings, University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson has expressed an interest in considering the consolidation of UW branch campuses and nearby technical colleges, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The consideration is an effort to alleviate the effect the financial crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the UW System.
The consolidation between the System’s branch campuses and Wisconsin Technical College System institutions could include consideration of physical buildings, academic programs, administrative services, or some other combination. Thompson stated the idea is just beginning to be explored and all options are being considered.
