The former chancellor and chief business officer at UW–Oshkosh are being sued by the UW System and the state Department of Justice alleging the two men inappropriately sent university money to UW–Oshkosh’s private foundation for five real estate projects around the city.
In a story from the Wisconsin State Journal, the two men approved money transfers to the private nonprofit foundation and also backed the foundation’s loans, which is prohibited by the state constitution. The foundation is supposed to send money to the university, not the other way around, according to the report.
Richard Wells served as chancellor of UW–Oshkosh from 2000 to 2014, and Thomas Sonnleitner was the university’s vice chancellor of administrative services from 2000 to 2016.
