Universities of Wisconsin leaders reported that fall enrollment at eight UW campuses is up this year, but overall enrollment is down due to a “significant” decline in the number of international students, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
First-day preliminary student enrollment estimates released Tuesday showed 96 fewer students will attend the 13 universities than last year’s final enrollment of 164,431. That marks a roughly 0.05% drop.
Enrollment across the system had begun to bounce back from a decade of declines over the past two years, but this year’s preliminary data tempers that trend.
Nationally, colleges and universities are expected to see a 15% decrease in international student enrollment this year.
