Charcuterie and cheese shop Tricky Foods opened in 2020, and immediately ran into a problem: it couldn’t ship its products.
Now it can, thanks to faculty-student research conducted in the fall at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, the only school in the Universities of Wisconsin system to offer a B.S. in packaging.
The research resulted in two eco-friendly packaging options. One is made with cornstarch and the other with recycled paper.
The research was led by associate professor Xiaojing “Kate” Liu of UW-Stout’s packaging program.
Tricky Foods owner Therese Merkel will use the new packaging to ship products across the country.
Merkel expects to begin test-shipping products in the new packaging this Christmas season.
