The UW Board of Regents on Thursday approved tuition increases averaging 3.75% across the system’s 13 universities, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Factoring in both annual tuition and segregated fees, the increase adds up to around 4.4% for the 2024–2025 school year. The cost of student attendance will increase by an average of 3.8%, including room and board.
The change comes at a time when UW is working to offset its expenses and retain campus staff and resources. Exact increases will vary by university. UW–Madison’s tuition will go up by 3.2% — or $746 — over this year’s rate. UW–Milwaukee will see the highest increase, at 4.2% or $873.
A 4.2% hike was instituted this year following a 10-year tuition rate freeze.
The board also reviewed UW’s proposed paid parental leave policy on Thursday but were not required to vote on it before it can take effect.
