Waisman Biomanufacturing at UW–Madison is partnering with Heat Biologics of Morrisville, North Carolina to produce a COVID-19 vaccine for phase one and phase two clinical trials, according to a release. Since companies typically are looking overseas for vaccine manufacturing, this partnership marks one of the only “Made in America” manufacturing and development COVID-19 collaborations.

Phase one trials could begin in early 2021, and UW–Madison may also serve as a trial site. Heat Biologics’ vaccine is also one of the few to directly target those most at risk of COVID, including the elderly and those who are immunocompromised.
