The University of Wisconsin-Madison closed two libraries and imposed limited hours as it contends with mounting budgetary constraints, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
The Astronomy, Mathematics and Physics Library on the fourth floor of the university’s Chamberlin Hall will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. The campus Social Work Library will shutter at the end of the 2025-26 school year.
They are among several libraries set to be affected by campuswide departmental budget cuts prescribed over the summer by university leaders.
Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin announced in June that UW-Madison would need to cut its 2026 budget by 5%, and some areas would have to reduce their budgets by 7% for the next school year.
