UW-Madison lost $27 million to federal research cuts

Federal government cuts to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s research have been to the tune of $27 million due to terminated and suspended grants, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

Donald Trump’s administration has cut funding to numerous universities.

UW-Madison has experienced a decline of 17% to federal research funding. The university also experienced a 30% drop in new awards last year.

About 150 research projects were terminated or suspended due to federal cuts. Of those, 43 were reinstated after lawsuits were initiated challenging federal actions.
