UW-Madison gets $1M for student, community health initiatives

The University of Wisconsin-Madison earned $1 million that will support student and community health initiatives after winning the Big Ten We Give Blood Drive competition, according to WMTV15.

Sponsored by Abbott, the competition features Big Ten schools going head-to-head to collect the most blood donations and help address the nationwide shortage.

UW-Madison collected over 15,000 blood donations, beating the University of Nebraska and the University of Michigan, who finished second and third, respectively.

The competition saw 83,043 blood donations overall, which, according to Abbott data, can help save over 249,000 lives.
