UW Hospitals ranked No. 1 in Wisconsin for 14th year running

For the 14th consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report ranked University of Wisconsin Hospitals No. 1 in Wisconsin on its Best Hospitals list, evaluating more than 4,000 hospitals.

In addition to the No. 1 ranking in Wisconsin, UW Hospitals had eight medical and surgical specialties ranked among the top 50 in the nation, including:

  • Diabetes and endocrinology;

  • Ear, nose and throat;

  • Gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery;

  • Geriatrics, obstetrics and gynecology;

  • Orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery;

  • Rehabilitation; and

  • Urology. 

This year, diabetes and endocrinology and rehabilitation are newly ranked for UW Health.

Four additional medical and surgical specialties were rated as high performing, including cancer, cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, neurology and neurosurgery and urology.

UW Hospitals, which includes University Hospital and East Madison Hospital, also received the highest rating for 18 procedures and conditions impacting people 65 years old and older.

University Hospital, a 505-bed facility on the UW-Madison campus, and East Madison Hospital, an 83-bed hospital on Madison’s east side, are part of the UW Health system, which also includes American Family Children’s Hospital, UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital, UW Health|Carbone Cancer Center, the UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital and an affiliation with UnityPoint Health-Meriter.
