Students across the Universities of Wisconsin will pay more in housing and campus fees next year, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The UW Board of Regents on Wednesday gave the green light to hike campus auxiliary fees, including the costs to live in campus residence halls and eat at dining halls, and fees for student campus organizations, recreational sports, student unions and more.
According to Julie Gordon, UW’s interim vice president of finance, housing, food and other fees make up 58% of the overall cost of attendance for a student living on campus. Room and board alone comprise 50%.
The average cost increase will be $302. Increases will range from $18-$434, and on average, students will pay 2.9% more overall. Those numbers, however, vary between campuses. UW-Madison’s fees will increase by $363, or 2.6%, as it raises debt payments for renovations to one of its residence halls.
