After receiving an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital certificate in late June, UW Health today announced significant developments in its emergency stroke care, Channel3000 reports. The certificate indicates that the hospital achieved a high level of stroke response and met the Joint Commission’s requirements for timely patient assessment and treatment.
The hospital received approval to expand its dedicated stroke response program, employing evidence-based protocols, enhancing data collection, training specialized staff in acute stroke care, implementing quality improvement initiatives, and collaborating with local agencies on emergency medical service.
UW Health said the certification allows faster response times for treatment of east side Madisonians experiencing a stroke, in particular through “tele-stroke” capabilities, in which a stroke neurologist can examine a patient via video feed and view real-time brain scans.
The organization also said the certification streamlines processes for patient transfers to downtown Madison’s University Hospital, a comprehensive stroke center.
