UW Health has begun construction on its new University Row Medical Center, which will expand the existing Digestive Health Center located at 750 University Row.

“We provide remarkable care to more than 4 million appointments per year through our outpatient clinics, so having facilities to meet growing demand is essential,” Katrina Lambrecht, chief administrative officer at UW Health, said in a statement.

University Row Medical Center will provide space for most of the clinics currently located at 20 S. Park St., which will eventually close.

Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2027, with patients expected to utilize the facility in the beginning of 2028.

University Row Medical Center will be four stories and include adult and pediatric primary care, urgent care, imaging and laboratory services, rehabilitation and a pharmacy. It will act as a hub for specialty services.

The services at UW Health West Towne Clinic, which include an urgent care clinic, will also relocate to University Row Medical Center.

More expansion and construction are in UW Health’s future.

“Each UW Health hospital in Madison, University Hospital, East Madison Hospital and American Family Children’s Hospital, are expanding to better serve our growing community,” Lambrecht said.

Some of those projects are already underway, like the expansion at University Hospital to add a six-story building. The expansion is planned to include 22 emergency department rooms, 22 flexible care beds and 48 inpatient rooms. The new space will be used for the trauma and life support center. Completion is planned for late 2026.
