The National Science Foundation has ranked UW–Madison sixth among the nation’s top colleges for research and development funding.
The latest ranking is based on 2016 funding, which was listed at $1.16 billion. In 2015, the first year since 1972 that the UW wasn’t among the top five, the University spent roughly $1.07 billion and also ranked sixth.
Johns Hopkins University topped the list ($2.4 billion) followed by the University of Michigan ($1.4 billion).
