The UW Board of Regents on Thursday approved tuition hikes for in-state undergraduate students at its 13 public universities by at least 4%, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. All universities except UW-Green Bay also opted into an additional 1% tuition increase.
Since a 10-year tuition freeze that ended in 2023, UW students have seen increases for three consecutive years, including a 3.75% increase for the 2024-25 school year and a 5% raise the previous year.Â
The news comes just over a week after Gov. Tony Evers and GOP leaders in the Legislature came to a budget agreement that gives the UW system an additional $256 million, which will go to merit and market pay adjustments and some capital projects. The funds did not, however, meet UW’s initial state aid request.
