The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents late last week approved an extra $13.5 million for UW-Madison to add two floors to its planned facility for a new cyclotron particle accelerator, which helps with cancer detection, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
The project, with a price tag between $77 million and $80 million, will create more space to treat patients for cancer and other diseases.
The cyclotron is scheduled for installation in 2028. The facility will occupy the site between the Institute for Medical Research’s two buildings off Highland Avenue next to UW Hospital.
