The UW–Madison Board of Regents approved establishing an Amazon online order pickup point for students at the Red Gym on campus, much to the ire of some local business owners, according to a story in The Capital Times.

The five-year deal from Amazon reportedly secures at least $100,000 in commissions for the campus.

A spokesperson from Dane Buy Local said the group, which represents 700 local businesses, is disappointed, arguing that Seattle-based Amazon does not support local employment economies.

A spokesperson for the University says it must continue to search for revenue opportunities due to state budget cuts.
