American employers added 147,000 jobs in June, the Associated Press reports, in a sign that the U.S. labor market continues to show resilience in the face of economic uncertainty.
According to the Labor Department, the U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 4.1% from 4.2% in May. Hiring rose modestly from a revised 144,000 in May, which topped economists’ expectations of fewer than 118,000 new jobs and a spike in unemployment.
So far this year, employers have added an average of 124,000 jobs per month, down from 2024’s 168,000 per month and an average of 400,000 from 2021-23.
